About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to be the key legal advisor to the executive team and board, with a focus on shaping the legal strategy for a fintech innovator. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of legal matters, including ensuring compliance with complex financial regulations, providing expert legal advice on corporate governance, and overseeing strategic partnerships. This role demands a forward-thinking lawyer with a passion for driving business success, deep expertise in fintech, and a proven track record in structuring and negotiating complex commercial agreements. The General Counsel will also be involved in mitigating risks in product launches, advising on fundraising rounds, and leading cross-functional collaboration to embed legal considerations into innovative financial products. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school, active bar membership, and at least 10 years of legal experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior in-house role at a fintech or high-growth tech company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in credit and lending regulations, experience with data privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer protection laws in a fintech context, and a proven ability to balance legal risk with business innovation. An entrepreneurial mindset, outstanding communication skills, and the ability to manage a legal team and external counsel with efficiency are also essential. Nice-to-have qualifications include experience in payment processing, lending, or brokerage platforms, familiarity with venture capital financing, and knowledge of international fintech regulations.
