POSITION SUMMARY:

The Foster Care Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and support to the foster care child welfare team. This position ensures high-quality service delivery and compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. The Supervisor will guide and support staff in managing their caseloads, maintain effective relationships with external partners, and contribute to ongoing program development and improvement efforts. A critical aspect of the role includes active involvement in foster care recruitment and community outreach, in alignment with the agencys mission and strategic goals.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelors degree in human services field (e.g. psychology, social work, criminal justice, sociology etc.)
  • Minimum three years of child welfare experience
  • Strong organizational management and development skills
  • Ability to pass criminal and central registry history as well as drug screen
  • Management, administration and supervisory experience in a child welfare protection or social service agency
  • Knowledge of Child and Family Services of Northeast Michigan programs and services
  • Knowledge of ISEP, Child Placing Agency Licensing Requirements, Public Act 116, Foster Home Licensing and Adoption Requirements
  • Knowledge of external community resources

Summary of Essential Job Function:

  • Supervise and support foster care child welfare staff, ensuring effective case management, policy adherence, and staff performance.
  • Review, assign, and monitor cases referred by DHHS and other agencies, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Assist with staff coverage during high-demand periods and guide caseload management for quality service delivery.
  • Lead foster care recruitment efforts, including outreach, presentations, home studies, and relationship-building with community partners.
  • Collaborate with the Director on compliance, continuous quality improvement, and policy development.
  • Conduct staff hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and corrective action planning as needed.
  • Facilitate team meetings, monitor outcomes, and ensure that staff meet training and education requirements.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with DHHS, law enforcement, judicial partners, and other service providers.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, uphold ethical standards, and ensure compliance with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Complete administrative duties including records management, quality assurance reporting, and participation in committees or additional assigned duties.
  • Assist in training and orientation of staff, volunteers and interns.
  • Participate in internal or external committees as required or requested.
  • Other duties as required and assigned
