Job Title: Virtualization Engineer
Location: On-site full-time in Huntsville, Alabama
Clearance: Top Secret clearance is required- must be willing to sit for a CI Poly Type: Direct Hire
Contract: About the Role:
ALTA IT Services is seeking a Virtualization Engineer with deep expertise in Citrix Server infrastructure (not desktop engineering). This role focuses on server-side virtualization and scaling to support up to 50,000 users. You will be responsible for the administration, engineering, and optimization of a large-scale Citrix environment in support of a government client. The ideal candidate will have experience with Citrix back-end infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and automation tools. Key Responsibilities
• Install, configure, implement, and validate Citrix and virtualization components.
• Support and optimize enterprise-level Citrix Server Farms, including:
o Citrix Provisioning Server (PVS) / Machine Creation Services (MCS) – MCS strongly preferred.
o SQL Database, License Server, Delivery Controller, Citrix Director, StoreFront, Studio, Gateway, Hypervisor.
o Citrix XenApp, Citrix VDI, Citrix XenServer.
o Citrix Netscaler MPX (FIPS).
• Manage Microsoft virtualization technologies:
o Hyper-V Manager (current version).
o System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).
• Automate and streamline operations using PowerShell scripting.
• Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot using Splunk (Deployment Server, Universal Forwarder v9.4.3, dashboards).
• Serve as the last line of defense for complex troubleshooting and supply critical leadership-level problem-solving.
• Collaborate with geographically dispersed teams (e.g., Huntsville, AL and Quantico, VA). Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of relevant IT experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
– OR – 10+ years of directly related experience in lieu of degree.
• Proven experience in large-scale Citrix infrastructure engineering and administration.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization subsystems and hypervisors.
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation.
• Hands-on experience with Splunk deployment & dashboards.
• Must demonstrate senior-level expertise, proactivity, discipline, and leadership traits. Clearance & Work Requirements
• Active Top Secret clearance required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CI Polygraph (reoccurring; note that not all polys from other entities are accepted).
• 100% onsite in Huntsville, AL (no remote). 👉 Key Hiring Note:
We need Citrix Server and infrastructure expertise – not Citrix desktop engineers. The ability to scale and virtualize each Citrix layer for enterprise-level environments is critical.
