Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships & Development, the Learning & Experience Designer will coordinate the design and facilitation of projects supporting career learning and workforce development in collaboration with the local community, as well as K-12 and post-secondary educational partners. The Learning & Experience Designer will leverage various platforms and instructional methods to create innovative and impactful learning experiences tailored to the needs of job seekers, students, and educators. Working closely with the Director and Supervisor, this role will help expand and strengthen partnerships within the educational network and identify opportunities for collaboration to develop learning experiences and resources that advance workforce development in the local educational community. Applying a human-centered approach, the Learning & Experience Designer will integrate stakeholder feedback into the design process, ensuring that training solutions are responsive, relevant, and aligned with organizational goals and complementary initiatives. Collaboration with project stakeholders will be essential to ensure that all outcomes support broader strategic objectives.

Essential Functions  

  1. In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Development, align educational initiatives to support organizational goals and address community needs
  2. Stay current with trends in educational design, workforce development, and emerging technologies to inform program development and continuously enhance subject matter expertise.
  3. Independently design and develop innovative training courses, online modules, and experiential learning opportunities that incorporate instructional design best practices and principles of adult learning.
  4. Lead the conceptualization, design, and implementation of engaging and effective learning experiences tailored to diverse audiences, including job seekers, K-12 students, post-secondary learners, and educators.
  5. Collaborate with internal program teams to develop learning experiences that support the launch and success of new workforce programs and initiatives.
  6. Plan and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community events that promote workforce development and educational opportunities.
  7. Analyze the learning needs and goals of organizations, gathering input from end users through focus groups, surveys, and other data collection methods.
  8. Implement robust assessment and evaluation strategies to measure the effectiveness of educational programs and identify areas for improvement.
  9. Plan, execute, and evaluate educational initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational standards.
  10. Procure external vendors and technological resources to support learning experience design, including learning management systems, online learning design firms, and other related systems or services.
  11. Prepare and present reports, proposals, and learning resources to stakeholders to promote educational initiatives and demonstrate impact.
  12. Contribute to grant proposals and scopes of work that clearly communicate a vision for career learning projects.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Fundamental Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, instructional design or related field.
  • Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in design, learning design, instructional design, education and/pr workforce career development.
  • Minimum three years’ experience creating engaging learning experiences across various media formats (video, written content, assessments, etc.)
  • Ability to collaborate with business partners, subject matter experts and other stakeholders for a successful learning experience design.
  • A strong understanding of learning theories, instructional design models, and best practices.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience managing complex and long-term projects.
  • Consultative approach–skilled at asking good questions to develop a deep understanding of a project’s needs and coming up with creative solutions.
  • Collaborative approach to design and problem solving.
  • Deep intellectual curiosity, creativity and ingenuity to solve problems and engage in self-directed learning
  • Attention to detail and an understanding of basic design principles.
  • Proactive communication style and sound professional judgement.
  • Proficiency with e-learning development tools (like Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate) and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with teammates, vendors and partner organizations.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Desired Requirements

  • Master’s degree in educational technology, instructional design or related field.
  • Knowledge of Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA).
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and solve problems creatively.
  • Data Analysis experience.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position. If you are hired at San Diego Workforce Partnership, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer generous benefits and retirement plans.
