Position Title: Community Advocate Coordinator, United for Families
Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time
Salary: $24.32/hr.

Location: Primarily based out of our Denver office at 711 Park Ave W, Denver, CO 80205. 3 days/week in office, 2 days/week remote

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected hourly pay rate for this position is $24.32 ($50,585.60 annualized). In an effort to increase equity and to avoid unfair bias historically associated with salary negotiations, we do not participate in salary negotiations outside of this stated starting salary range.

How You'll Help

Mile High United Way's United for Families (UFF) is part of MHUW's United Neighborhoods (UN) collective impact strategy. The UFF program combines community-based efforts and collaborative partnerships to advance outcomes for young children (0-5) and their families and caregivers. The United for Families Home Visitor/Community Advocate actively engages, builds rapport, and establishes a trusting relationship with community members with a focus on early childhood education; provides community members with referrals to local community services; and establishes relationships and partnerships with nonprofit service providers by participating in local community engagement activities with local agencies. The Home Visitor/Community Advocate will be responsible in providing evidence-based in-home (or virtual) parenting education services utilizing the Home Instruction for the Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) curriculum primarily to families with young children within specific neighborhoods in Aurora, Colorado, and possibly other Denver-Metro communities.

Essential Responsibilities

• Actively engages and builds trust with community members to assess need and deploy resources.
• Assists community members with problem-solving barriers to community services.
• Identifies and refers community members to needed community services.
• Provide s follow-up support to community members to assess if needs were met.
• Serve s as a liaison between Mile High United Way's volunteer staff and community agencies.
• Develop and maintain relationships with families who have children attending United for Families partner programs, with a focus on building parent capacity to support the school readiness of young children.
• Work with partner program staff to improve school readiness and family economic stability, specifically by supporting families by offering 2-1-1 resource navigation.
• Attend partner meetings and events, as appropriate.
• Coordinate with the MHUW United for Schools' Community Advocate, as necessary.
• Serve as a liaison between Mile High United Way's volunteer staff and the community.
• Support early childhood partners, if necessary, in the implementation of evaluation tools and surveys
• Implement the HIPPY (Home Instruction for the Parents of Preschool Youngsters) curriculum to 15-17 families in Aurora, Colorado. Program modifications will be made to comply with health and safety measures and national best practices. In order to maintain fidelity to the program, the position is required to:
  • Meet with families and role play the curriculum with assigned families each week in their home.
  • Participate in the planning of group meetings, including role playing the curriculum and the provision of an enrichment activity.
  • Participate in training and other staff development activities.
  • Attend and participate in weekly supervisions.
  • Collaborate with coordinator to support all families to succeed in program.
  • Keep supervisor abreast of child/family progress and family issues/concerns as they arise.
  • Timely completion and submission of required forms and other documentation as required.
  • Participation in all sponsored HIPPY activities such as field trips, graduations, awards ceremonies, etc.
  • Assist supervisor in maintaining an efficient record keeping system of participating families.

Additional Responsibilities

• Learn and become proficient utilizing a resource referral database.
• Learn and become proficient in data input.
• Support cross-departmental efforts, events, and activities, including volunteerism opportunities in the community.
• Identify impact stories for marketing and communications and collaborate with MHUW Marketing Team to include community perspectives in social media posts, blogs, videos, and donor impact tours.
• Provide administrative support.

What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills

• High School diploma/GED required
• Previous knowledge of or experience with the HIPPY home visitation program or other home visitation programs preferred.

Specials Skills/Knowledge:

• Bilingual in Spanish, Farsi, or Vietnamese
• Familiarity with case management
• Ability to navigate complex social service systems.
• Proven ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Demonstrated capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
• Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities with accountability for meeting deadlines.
• Must be able to manage conflict, stress and multiple simultaneous work demands in an effective professional manner and be comfortable working in informal environments.
• Must be able to effectively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds to reduce cultural and social-economic barriers.
• Excellent rapport and trust building skills with a disenfranchised population.
• Ability to work independently, problem solve, and design creative solutions to complex challenges.

Computer Skills:

• Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing and internet usage.

Working Environment: 25% of the time is typical office environment, 75% of time traveling to local offsite meetings depending on the time of year (when schools are in session).

Physical Activities: The employee also may be required to lift up to 40lbs.
