Position: Bus Driver (Part- time)
Location: Delbarton School
Reports To: Director of Transportation
Classification: Non- Exempt/ Hourly ($35.00 per hour)
Job Overview:
The Bus Driver will be responsible for safely transporting students, faculty, and staff to and from school, activities, and field trips, while ensuring compliance with all applicable traffic laws and school policies. The driver will play a key role in maintaining the safety and well-being of all passengers.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely operate a school bus on scheduled routes and special trips.
Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, including checking fuel, oil, and mechanical components.
Ensure student and passenger safety by following all traffic laws and adhering to safety guidelines.
Assist passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle as necessary.
Maintain cleanliness and order on the bus, reporting any mechanical or cleanliness issues to the Director of Transportation.
Communicate effectively with school staff, students, and parents, handling any concerns professionally.
Respond to unexpected issues such as delays, traffic, or mechanical problems in a calm and effective manner.
Attend scheduled training and safety meetings.
Qualifications:
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
Clean driving record with no major violations.
Previous experience as a bus driver preferred.
Strong knowledge of traffic regulations and safety standards.
Ability to manage time and routes effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to pass background checks and drug testing as required.
Ability to follow and abide by policies and procedures outlined in the Delbarton Employee Handbook.
Work Environment:
Physically able to sit for extended periods and assist with loading/unloading passengers as needed.
Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends for school events or field trips.
